1. How to handle categories

You can create article and news categories very easy and in nearly the same way. In order to create a category, go into the Portal Control Panel (PCP).

Once you clicked to create a category, regardless of whether you are in the PCP (Portal Control Panel) or the ACP (Admin Control Panel), you see the input field for the category name.

If you create an article category, it is called "Create article category". Type your category name in the field title and save the category by clicking "Save News Category". Done. When you want to edit a category, click "edit News Category" or "Edit Article Category". Then you will see a list of xenMiG-Portal-categories. Click on the choosen category and you can edit its name or delete it.

You can create as many categories as you want.

2. How to create an article

You start creating an article with a click in the main navigation bar of your xenMiG-Portal.

Afterwards the xenMiG-editor opens and you can write your article like a posting in Xenforo. Below you can read about the editor´s functions:

Number 1: "Article Title": Headline of your article.
Number 2:
"BBCodes": All known BBCodes of your xenforo are available in the editor, plus four new BBCodes, which will be explanied later.
Number 3: "WYSIWYG Editor": The same editor as in xenforo. You can switch between WYSIWIG- and BBCode-editor.
Number 4: "Article Category": Choose in which category you want to save your article. Open the drop down and generated categories are available.
Number 5:
"Create Article as": Sometimes it can be useful, to be able to create an article under a diffent username. This username you can put in here. It does not use the xenforo-function to show usernames, when you start to give in characters. You type in the name there and if it is correct, it will be linked to this userprofile in the portal.
Number 6:
"Create Article at": Here you can create scheduled news. Choose your publishing date in the calendar. Timestamp for this will be 0.00h (=publishing time).
Number 7: "Publish Article": Here you save your article and publish it (if you have the permission to publish directly).
Number 8: "Save Article as draft": You save your article, but do not publish it yet. That is good for later work on your article or for big articles.
Number 9: "News Options": Here you can open the news options, if you like to make a news directly out of the article. News documentaion is on another page.
Number 10:
"Preview": If you like to see your article bevor publishing, you can use this preview-button.

- NEW BBCOdes in xenMiG-Portal We added four new BBCodes to the editor to format your articles:

  • Justify
  • Float Left
  • Float Right
  • Columns

Here are some screenshots with these BBCodes in use. The shots are in the order above and some are combined with different of these codes.

3. How to edit articles in xenMiG-Portal

There are three ways to get into the editing of an article. With the help of PCP, you can choose if you want to see a list of all articles ("Edit Article"), only your own articles ("Edit own Articles") or a list of the categories, where you choose in which category you want to edit an article ("Edit Articles by Category").

The second way is to go directly into editing an article, when you read an article. Click at "Edit Article" and you can directly edit this article.

The third way is by use of ACP. There you can see a list of all articles in your forum.

The article editor looks exactly the same like the article-creator-editor and has the same functions.

Number 1: "Article Title": Type in the headline for your article.
Number 2:
"BBCodes": All known BBCodes of your xenforo are available here in the editor, as well as four new ones, which will be explanied later.
Number 3:
"WYSIWYG Editor": The same editor as in xenforo. You can switch from WYSIWIG- to BBCode-editor, as you know from your forum.
Number 4: "Article Category": Choose in which category you want to save your article. Open the drop down and all generated categories are available.
Number 5:
"Create Article as": Create an article under a diffent username. It does not use the xenforo-function to show usernames, when you start to type in characters. You write the name there and if it is correct, it will be linked to the userprofile in the portal.
Number 6: "Create Article at": You can use scheduled news here. Choose your date to publish in the calendar. Timestamp for this will be 0.00h (=publishing time).
Number 7:
"Publish Article": Save your article and publish it for everyone (if you have the permission to publish directly).
Number 8: "Save Article as Draft": You save your article, but do not publish it. Good for later work at an article and for big articles.
Number 9: "News Options": Here you can open the news options, if you like to make a news directly out of the article. News documentation can be found on another page.
Number 10:
"Preview": If you like to see your article bevor publishing, use this preview button.
Number 11: This is the BBCode in the editing process. As you can see in the screenshot, the new bbcodes are shown in their original. All other BBCodes are shown wysiwyg (as in the normal editor).

4. How to handle an article

During editing an article, there is one more control field, which is necessary for an article-section: The "Handle Article":

Here you can see how to use "Article Handle" in PCP:

And here you can see how to use "Article Handle" in ACP: In "Handle Article" there are four important functions for your article:

  2. "Article is awating approval": this article is made by someone, who has not the permission to publish an article directly. You can give it approval.
  3. "Delete/Deactivate": this article will no longer be shown in the portal widget. But it will not be deleted from the system.
  4. "Delete permanently": this article will be permanently deleted. It is not longer available in the system. This action cannot be undone.

5. Article Widget / Article Layout

The article widget is something special, because it´s only function is, to show you the position of the article in your article-layout.
